I think I found a solution: using Icedove 31.0 from sid, I was also affected by #753424
It seems related to the new way Mozilla checks certificates. I found a solution here: http://blog.dob.sk/2014/07/23/firefox-31-self-signed-certificate-sec_error_ca_cert_invalid/ I made the config modification in icedove and remembering passwords now works again.
