You might be able to get a bit more useful information from gdb thus: (gdb) set env MAXIMA_PREFIX /usr/lib/maxima/5.33.0/ (gdb) handle SIGSEGV nostop noprint (gdb) b error (gdb) r -eval '(run)' This and 'strace -f maxima' would be helpful.
