The printf(3) manpage reads:The C99 standard specifies "[-]inf" or "[-]infinity" for infinity, and a string starting with "nan" for NaN, in the case of f conversion, and "[-]INF" or "[-]INFINITY" or "NAN*" in the case of F conversion.)
