Package: coreutils
Version: 5.2.1-2.1
Followup-For: Bug #339286

I'm having the same problem as the original poster. I'm on AMD64.
coreutils 5.93-2 breaks checkinstall (more specifically, it breaks
installwatch, which checkinstall calls). Downgrading to coreutils
5.2.1-2.1 makes the segmentation fault go away and checkinstall
behaves normally.
