I did a quick check in the source code and it seemed that this function was called in a tight loop if the random number that was returned is always 0xffff (a 16-bit short was requested).
I did not ran into these problems when testing the package, so thanks for reporting this.
I found my patch to switch to a recent GNUTLS introduced in -2 is broken. I will create a fixed one soon.
