And it doesn't address the issue that the service which is (re)started from the hook has other dependencies. Say the shorewall service has other dependencies like e.g. mysql, because it stores its rules there (yeah, I made that up :-) ). If you now restart shorewall from the if-up.d hook it will be started during rcS (i.e. early boot) completely disregarding the dependency on mysql. -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
