The computer which I was using did not have an ethernet card, nor Wi-Fi. I have since doubled the amount of memory in it to about 380 Mega Bytes. I wiped the hard disk drive, and re-installed Jessie 20140616.
I obtained a similar result, notwithstanding the increase in memory capacity. So, I wiped the hard disk drive again, and installed Wheezy, Debian 7.5.0 DVD-1 + DVD-2 + DVD-3. Again selecting Advanced -> Alternative Desktop -> Lxde. For some reason the system installed 4 packages from DVD-2. Anyway, it worked. It is slow, but it works. I do not know what those four packages from Wheezy DVD-2 are. I hope that this is useful, or more to the point, that Jessie Lxde will work for people who cannot afford new computers. with best regards from Richard Betham -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
