I also tested it by downgrading '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' from using its speedy 'nvidia' X driver, (which I'd upgraded after reporting earlier instances of this bug), to the slower 'vesa', as it seemed possible that 'nvidia' might output graphics too fast for the bug to be noticable.
