On a freshly installed Jessy (from netinst), I have similar issue with this message in the detail window: (synaptic:8064): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_child_watch_add_full: assertion 'pid > 0' failed The gtk frontend needs a working python-gtk2 and python-glade2. Those imports can not be found. Falling back to pager.
