The warning is issued, when only a cat-file exists. When I ran
"/etc/cron.weekly/man-db" (changed, directing error output to a file),
I got for example this

Updating index cache for path `/usr/share/man/man1'. Wait...
done.
Checking for stray cats under /usr/share/man...
Checking for stray cats under /var/cache/man...
/usr/bin/mandb: warning: /var/cache/man/cat1/CACHEDIR.TAG: ignoring bogus
filename
col: Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character
/usr/bin/mandb: warning: /var/cache/man/cat1/mupdf.1.gz: whatis parse for
mupdf(1) failed

The mupdf.1.gz cat1-file is in the attacment

N.B. To the warning from "col" the name of the offending file should be
added.
