Is this standard practice ? Aren't these autogenerated on the build machine ?
Unfortunately config.sub and config.guess are two scripts which usually shipped by upstream with the software and not updated as part of a normal build process and out of date versions don't work on newer architectures.

If you use automake then an autoreconf will update config.sub and config.guess but I hesitate to apply that to other peoples packages unless I have to because in my experiance autoreconf often fails.

There is a helper dh-autotools-dev which can be used to handle updating of config.sub/config.guess but i'm not sure how well it works with old style rules files and iirc there are some corner cases it gets wrong.
Would you please care to answer to my question ?
Sorry, I didn't notice your previous mail had a question right at the bottom below the quote of the debdiff.
