Package: postfix Version: 2.11.0-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer,
While debugging a different bug with cloning VMs I stumpled upon this bug. Just modify the PID in /var/spool/postfix/pid/master.pid while postfix is still running and then shut it down by calling /etc/init.d/postfix stop: root@mac ~ # /etc/init.d/postfix stop [ ok ] Stopping Postfix Mail Transport Agent: postfix. The init script returns the string [ ok ] and the exit code is zero. But the postfix process is still running because it can not be shutdown with the wrong PID information. I expected this behaviour but I expected the init script to show the error, especially in the exit code. I think the problem is caused bu the function running() in the init script because it returns no value if the PID does not exist. greets Jimmy -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (996, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.14-1-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages postfix depends on: ii adduser 3.113+nmu3 ii cpio 2.11+dfsg-2 ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.53 ii dpkg 1.17.9 ii libc6 2.18-7 ii libdb5.3 5.3.28-3 ii libsasl2-2 2.1.26.dfsg1-9 ii libsqlite3-0 3.8.4.3-3 ii libssl1.0.0 1.0.1g-4 ii lsb-base 4.1+Debian12 ii netbase 5.2 ii ssl-cert 1.0.33 Versions of packages postfix recommends: ii python 2.7.6-2 Versions of packages postfix suggests: pn dovecot-common <none> pn libsasl2-modules <none> pn mail-reader <none> pn postfix-cdb <none> pn postfix-doc <none> pn postfix-ldap <none> pn postfix-mysql <none> pn postfix-pcre <none> pn postfix-pgsql <none> ii procmail 3.22-21 ii resolvconf 1.75 pn sasl2-bin <none> pn ufw <none> -- Configuration Files: /etc/init.d/postfix changed [not included] -- debconf information excluded -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
