David, This has come up from time to time, unfortunately although it's easy to build brandy for text or Graphics it's *not* easy to build it for both.
There are (as you have discovered) makefiles for various builds and currently that is as close as we get. If you would like to do some work on this then I'd be pleased to accept patches. As for the problem in graphics mode with only a few lines appearing before scrolling starts I have no idea why this is. Once again if you have time to investigate it and come up with suggestions or a patch then please go ahead. Sorry to be rather negative but I don't have time to investigate this myself at the moment.
