Package: cpufreqd
Version: 1.2.2-2
Severity: important

Hi,

I have an IBM Thinkpad A20m laptop computer.
I am running Debian Sarge upgraded to the latest and greatest with a
2.4.26 kernel. I patched this kernel with wlan-ng and cpufreq patches. The
cpufreq patches are from 12-2004. All options/govenors are compiled in.

Cpudyn works on this very system, but is way too jumpy for me. I want low
frequency on all but the most demanding cpu tasks as soon as ac is off.
This is why I tried cpufreqd. With a 2.6.x kernel (that I can't use,
because ppp doesn't seem to work right) cpu frequency changes according to
ac on/off even without a daemon.

With the current setup and different settings in cpufreqd.conf (pm is
always set to apm in there) cpufreqd doesn't change the frequency on a
running machine at all. On startup it either sets very low or high
depending on ac or not. But after this even on ac and 100% cpu usage (I
used cpuburn to for extensive testing) it doesn't crank up the frequency.
Also when starting on full speed and taking out ac, running low on power
and no system usage it cpufreqd does not turn the frequency back down.

While I would love to have the advanced features of cpufreqd I would
settle for a simple setting with low frequency on ac off and high
frequency on as on.

Any help is appriciated.

Thx,
