This persists after upgrading Ark to KDE SC 4.13. Note that I experienced 2 issues before upgrading: 1. The one tracked here, i.e. Ark producing a gzipped tarball when asked to procude a Zip. 2. Difficulty opening zip files from file managers (missing file association). Issue 2 appears to be solved after upgrading (and perhaps restarting KDE), but issue 1 remains. I confirm that even if Ark is manually opened, it produces tarballs rather than zips. By the way, changelogs should be user-oriented. Users have no clue what use_libarchive_for_zip_files is. It's not clear if "Fix use_libarchive_for_zip_files. Thanks to Augusto Beiro for noticing." is supposed to mean a fix for this bug. At least mention ticket titles when they're appropriate. IMHO, patch names shouldn't even be mentionned. Although there is apparently no security issue here, considering the confusion it causes to have tarballs with a .zip extension, I would consider this RC. Gmail won't allow sending such files. The opposite bug may be less problematic, but since other platforms don't necessarily support tarballs as well as zip-s, I'm almost glad Gmail prevented me from sending a problematic file. -- Filipus Klutiero http://www.philippecloutier.com
