Package: lightdm Version: 1.10.1-2 Followup-For: Bug #741698 On my Laptop I usually start lightdm only when needed and not when booting. I am using sysvinit and used the following two methods at different times to disable autostarting of lightdm:
1. $ sudo update-rc.d lightdm remove 2. via rcconf In both cases I wasn't able to do anything in XFCE which requires admin rights (shutting down the computer and configuring the network manager was what I tried). Also when starting up lightdm via $ sudo service lightdm start I am shortly shown the X terminal, then my computer switches back to the terminal where I executed the command. My computer also switches back to said terminal after logging in via lightdm. None of these problems appear when lightdm is started automatically at boot time. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.14-1-686-pae (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages lightdm depends on: ii adduser 3.113+nmu3 ii consolekit 0.4.6-4 ii dbus 1.8.2-1 ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.53 ii libc6 2.18-7 ii libgcrypt11 1.5.3-4 ii libglib2.0-0 2.40.0-3 ii libpam-systemd 204-8 ii libpam0g 1.1.8-3 ii libxcb1 1.10-2 ii libxdmcp6 1:1.1.1-1 ii lightdm-gtk-greeter [lightdm-greeter] 1.8.5-1 Versions of packages lightdm recommends: ii xserver-xorg 1:7.7+7 Versions of packages lightdm suggests: ii accountsservice 0.6.37-1 ii upower 0.9.23-2+b2 -- debconf information: * shared/default-x-display-manager: lightdm lightdm/daemon_name: /usr/sbin/lightdm -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
