While this might not have been the best choice, it was the only solution I found where the locale information was not reset so i18n is working as expected - not that I'm keep on l10n but other might be. In other words, running the program as unprivileged user already caused a lot of grief in the past and appearently the nightmare hasn't ended yet. So I am ---><--- that close to drop the idea of security aware programming and happily execute the program as root.
