Package: grub-legacy
Version: Cryptic message installing grub
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I'm following your instructions at https://wiki.debian.org/FromLiloToGrub.

The line 'grub-install /dev/sda' fails with this message:

The file /boot/grub/stage1 not read correctly.

I have no idea what that means, there is no indication what I did wrongly
or what I have to do to fix the problem. Please advise.
