Elimar, > All your main output controls are muted. Start alsamixer, change to > a control where "MM" is shown at the end of the bar, press <m>. The > "MM" will cange to "" and hopefull yyou will have sound.
OK, thanks. I'm causing trouble for you. Originally the vertical bars were grey which I interpreted as muted. I raised the levels to show green bars which I interpreted as unmuted. Apparently the level can be non-zero while the output is muted and the level can be 0 while the output is unmuted. Both cases produce no sound. Seems confusion prone. Thanks again for your help, ...
