The VIA 82C686A/B is card 0.  Card 1 is the modem.
Nothing on the VIA is muted.  The third "3D Contr" is shut off or 
not implemented but that shouldn't stop all sound.

Also there is a short tone at the early stage of machine startup, 
from both the internal speaker and from a speaker connected to 
the headphone socket.  The BIOS must signal the sound hardware 
and the sound hardware then produces sound.
