The server process of a GNU Screen process pair can be crashed by
calling byobu-screen (at least with byobu version 5.77-1), choosing
"screen behaviour" for Ctrl-A and then pressing (at least) either
"Ctrl-A c" (new screen) or "Ctrl-A m" (show last message).

"screen -ls" shows the screen session as "dead":

There is a screen on:

Remove dead screens with 'screen -wipe'.
