Right. Perhaps autopkgtest should have a new restrictions, instead of needs-root it should have not-root, to specify that the test can not run as root, ref <URL: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=autopkgtest/autopkgtest.git;a=blob_plain;f=doc/README.package-tests;hb=HEAD >? :) This is not the first test case I know about that will fail when running as root.
