Hello,
                please disregard my previous report.
The problem was consistently present until I did a complete system reboot.
After reboot, it is unreproducible.
Now network-manager and nm-applet work just fine.

Thank you!
All the best,
                        Nick

Another "me too", but even worse than before.
Since yesterday, when my laptop resumes from suspend, it does not resume
network.

The button "Enable Networking" on the nm-applet would not work.

ifconfig only lists lo, no eth0 nor wlan0

To restore networking I had to
/etc/init.d/network-manager stop
/etc/init.d/network-manager start

Yesterday, before this problem started, I upgraded some 50 packages, so
this problem may be due to some interaction.
I'm ready for further testing & providing feedback.

This is jessie, so I suggest removing "on Wheezy" from the title of this
bug (or, even better, fixing it ;-) ).

Thank you!

All the best,
                        Nick
