Installing a package from jessie/sid on a squeeze system is not supported in Debian, in the general case (“skipping a release”), and this works in wheezy. Anyway, I’ve just uploaded a version of mediawiki to sid which depends on a “new enough” php5-common (with the latest fixes to php5{en,dis}mod) since people are going to try this anyway (as it’s generally unproblematic for “web” stuff like this).
