iPad requires a special command to make it charge with computers. There's already utilities, for example, ASUS Ai Charger on Windows to make iPad charge, and users in Ubuntu community comes up with a small utility to make iPad charge. pkg-gtkpod seems is the most relevant maintainer group for this package.
