I'd like to request that this bug be re-opened, because POL's hard dependency on Wine makes the package substantially less useful than it would otherwise be.
My current system is (like many other people's) amd64, and so I'm using Debian's multiarch feature to install wine:i386 to run games with. Unfortunately, due to the way multiarch dependencies work right now, playonlinux's "wine" dependency can only be satisfied by wine:amd64 which doesn't support any of the (32-bit) apps I want to run. So, I have to choose between having a Debian-supplied Wine and running my own playonlinux, or having a Debian-supplied playonlinux and using their generic 32-bit Wine builds. I'd really like to have Debian everything. Even better would be if the Debian package for "playonlinux" supported both the wine:i386 (which provides a 'wine' binary) and wine-unstable:i386 (which provides a 'wine-unstable' binary).
