I confirm this bug. I'm using Debian SID, up-to-date (autofs 5.0.8, linux 3.13).
I'm experiencing the same sypmthoms. The message I obtain in /var/log/daemon.log is: Mar 22 21:43:10 ancalagon automount[16611]: get_exports: lookup(hosts): exports lookup failed for glaurung Mar 22 21:43:10 ancalagon automount[16611]: key "glaurung" not found in map source(s). Manual mount works properly. Automount not using -hosts also work properly. running "bash /etc/auto.net glaurung" is also working properly.
