Hello Paul! Your bug report shows up as one of the highest priority tasks on my debian maintainer dashbord.... since you've marked it as "render package unusable".
I'm using totem myself and it works very well for me. On the other hand my computer doesn't even contain a DVD drive.... Are you sure about the severity? Maybe you overreacted and want to consider lowering the severity of your bug report? If not, please elaborate a bit on how the package is unusable despite it looking to me like it works very well here. I'm sorry, I'm not able to help you out much with your problem... as mentioned I don't even have a DVD drive, so it's hard for me to investigate your problem.
