I removed all the .msf files and it still didn't fix it. :-(

I don't have any extensions installed and nothing shows up in the
JavaScript console.

Maybe your mail box index is broken. Please backup your complete
~/.mozilla-thunderbird directory first. Stop thunderbird, remove the .msf files
of
the Mail folders cause all the troubles and start again.
