Package: sl-modem-daemon
Version: 2.9.9d-7
Severity: important

I have a Thinkpad T42 with an AC97 modem. lspci -v reports:

0000:00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M)
AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [Generic])
        Subsystem: IBM: Unknown device 0559
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11
        I/O ports at 2400 [size=256]
        I/O ports at 2000 [size=128]
        Capabilities: <available only to root>

The sl-modem-daemon package installed without errors and the
snd_intel8x0m module is loaded at system start. Whenever pppd is
started it fails saying no dialtone.

lsmod shows:

snd_intel8x0 35136 1
snd_intel8x0m 18756 4

The telephone line is good as I am using the same line with a PCMCIA
modem to submit this report. I know the Intel modem works as I had it
working with the Linuxant driver package, but could not build that
package against linux-image-2.6.14-2-686 for some reason so I am trying
this package.

I am using the ALSA modules included with the linux kernel packages and
have the following kernel packages installed and am running Debian and
not custom kernels:

linux-image-2.6.12-1-686
linux-image-2.6.14-2-686

I will provide further information as needed.
