Package: sl-modem-daemon Version: 2.9.9d-7 Severity: important
I have a Thinkpad T42 with an AC97 modem. lspci -v reports: 0000:00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [Generic]) Subsystem: IBM: Unknown device 0559 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11 I/O ports at 2400 [size=256] I/O ports at 2000 [size=128] Capabilities: <available only to root> The sl-modem-daemon package installed without errors and the snd_intel8x0m module is loaded at system start. Whenever pppd is started it fails saying no dialtone. lsmod shows: snd_intel8x0 35136 1 snd_intel8x0m 18756 4 Here is an extract from my logs: kernel: ICH4: chipset revision 1 kernel: ICH4: not 100%% native mode: will probe irqs later . . . kernel: MC'97 1 converters and GPIO not ready (0xff00) . . . kernel: intel8x0_measure_ac97_clock: measured 50066 usecs kernel: intel8x0: clocking to 48000 . . . kernel: CSLIP: code copyright 1989 Regents of the University of California kernel: PPP generic driver version 2.4.2 pppd[5338]: pppd 2.4.3 started by user, uid 1000 chat[5343]: abort on (BUSY) chat[5343]: abort on (NO CARRIER) chat[5343]: abort on (VOICE) chat[5343]: abort on (NO DIALTONE) chat[5343]: abort on (NO DIAL TONE) chat[5343]: abort on (NO ANSWER) chat[5343]: abort on (DELAYED) chat[5343]: send (ATZ^M) chat[5343]: expect (OK) chat[5343]: ATZ^M^M chat[5343]: OK chat[5343]: -- got it chat[5343]: send (ATL1DT562-5553^M) chat[5343]: expect (CONNECT) chat[5343]: ^M chat[5343]: ATL1DT562-5553^M^M chat[5343]: NO DIALTONE chat[5343]: -- failed chat[5343]: Failed (NO DIALTONE) pppd[5338]: Connect script failed pppd[5338]: Exit. The telephone line is good as I am using the same line with a PCMCIA modem to submit this report. I know the Intel modem works as I had it working with the Linuxant driver package, but could not build that package against linux-image-2.6.14-2-686 for some reason so I am trying this package. I am using the ALSA modules included with the linux kernel packages and have the following kernel packages installed and am running Debian and not custom kernels: linux-image-2.6.12-1-686 linux-image-2.6.14-2-686 I will provide further information as needed. - Nate >> -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.14-2-686 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages sl-modem-daemon depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.4.59 Debian configuration management sy ii libasound2 1.0.9-3 ALSA library ii libc6 2.3.5-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an sl-modem-daemon recommends no packages. -- debconf information: * sl-modem-daemon/country: USA -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
