We can provide pure upstream version but since in case of Debian it is
possible setup uses nis then user needs to manually change alternative
so I thought providing patched version is fine.

But I don't have any opinion whatever is fine for user is fine for me
:-)

First you need to register yourself on alioth project [1] then copy your
ssh key there. Once done I can request for you to be added to
collab-maint then you will have write access to suckless-tools
repository.

If you want to know some packaging basics you can look at [2]

PS: For the time being till you get added to collab-maint I can mirror
the repo in gitorious / github whichever you prefer.
