As requested in #707069 I would still like to see ngx_pagespeed available.

Michael's comments about how you should "write your website decent to begin 
with" are true, but there are a couple exceptions to that:

1) using others code, for example content management sites, etc. where 
making such edits in your own copy of the site would be time consuming, 
problematic to support as you move forward, and upstream may take a while 
to integrate such fixes. Having the ability to turn on pagespeed and 
immediately make things better would be nice.

2) some of the things provided by pagespeed are things you might not want 
to change in the human maintained code and instead prefer the server to 
make those changes for you. For example the things that trim all whitespace 
or automatically combine CSS files. If you were to do those things directly 
it might make your site harder for humans to maintain.
