Python3 is not supported upstream. A port was done, or at least attempted, a couple years ago by an upstream developer, but the patches were deemed too ugly to mainstream, for not much benefit. The situation may change in the future if, e.g., upstream drops support for Python 2.5. Perhaps the patches to support both 2.6 and 3.x would be less ugly. I'd rather not maintain a patchset for Python 3 compatibility until upstream supports it, as I don't really understand it.
