Please disregard post of maybe 1/2 hour ago. This was written last week,

Update: Up and Running Once Again (phew!)

Googled on chroot input output error, found a arch-linux thread which lead me
to the solution: The libs were being loaded from i868/cmov set. I copied those
to i386-linux-gnu, reset the lib pointer and had a working shell.

Reboot, nothing mounted. Copied id libs, copied from my "saved" folders
Reboot, got kde up. Iptables complained about a couple more so copied them as
well.

dpkg -i'd all the libc6, related 2.17 versions that had been erroneously
replaced with 2.18-experimental versions. A couple of dependencies as well.
All looks OK in synaptic, so ....

Do change the bug title! As I said, this update to experimental packages
occurred twice already (but I cannot say how to reproduce, maybe there is a
bug in the update from certain repos.)
