I'm not used to systems that don't automatically check their memory, as all my old i386 systems do. And I hate non-ECC memory, which this system uses. But your hunch was right. memtest86+ revealed a bad memory DIMM, which makes my entire installation suspect. New memory is on order. I'll reinstall Debian from scratch once the new memory has been installed and tested. -- .''`.
