Nope: Notice how I wrote "some of". :-) I use XeTeX myself for some things, and find it a higher quality producer than Scribus and Ghostscript, but that's besides the point (professional grade does not necessarily imply high quality). > These fonts are used by default on context etc, thus the dependency is > and will remain strict. If ConTexT always(!) need OpenType flavor of Tex Gyre, then package context should directly depend on package fonts-texgyre. If however (as it seems you describe the situation) - ConTexT only by default, but not for *all* uses of that tool, need OpenType flavor of Tex Gyre, then package context should directly *recommend* package fonts-texgyre. The example of ConTexT that you bring up is therefore an argument for - not against - relaxing from depends to recommends - and for a different package than this bugreport is about. > Closing this bug. I beg to disagree, and kindly request you to reopen this bugreport. Debian Policy explicitly describes "Recommends:" to be the correct relation to use when a package in unneeded for an an unusual installation: The `Recommends' field should list packages that would be found together with this one in all but unusual installations. >> I argue that this is a genuine use-case for having tex-gyre installed >> _without_ fonts-texgyre, and ask that the relation therefore should >> be relaxed to only recommend fonts-texgyre. > > Then you can disable the necessary fontconfig file, or report a bug to > the "professional" typesetting PDF producers that they should get > fixed. I am aware that there are other more complex solution to my problem. Do you not recognize this as an unusual installation, that do not need fonts-texgyre pulled in by tex-gyre? - Jonas -- * Jonas Smedegaard - idealist & Internet-arkitekt * Tlf.: +45 40843136 Website: http://dr.jones.dk/ [x] quote me freely [ ] ask before reusing [ ] keep private
