1. I don't understand why it has to be removed; it's an interface that has been used, and not documented as deprecated anywhere. 2. If it's really a problem that such symlink exists, please do document it in the manual page, changelog, NEWS.Debian, and release-notes of debian-installer, and then remove after etch.
