The version of libasound2-dev in unstable is 1.0.9, which is >= 1.0.5
and is supposed to have the snd_asoundlib_version symbol. The m68k and
Alpha autobuilders managed to build the package. It is therefore not
"not buildable in unstable".

If you have anything less patronising than "stop uploading" to
suggest I would gladly hear it. I am especially interested in what
maintainer practice I may have failed to follow by uploading a package
with proper build dependencies that successfully built on my sid system.
