Dear Maintainer, I think the BTS is being a bit too subtle in its treatment of bugs reported against packages that are not in the current archive. I just reported the following two bugs: * Bug#736540: not-a-package: This package suffers from non-existance * Bug#736542: emacs19: This version of emacs is simply too old The resulting "Acknowledgement" subject lines seem just a little bit too nonchalant to me; how many people actually read these emails to see the address "unknown-pack...@qa.debian.org" in the body of the email? (For the uninitiated or simply lazy, you can see these responses at <http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=4;bug=736540> and <http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=4;bug=736542>.) I'd think something like "Warning" might be more appropraite in the subject, along with some explanation in the body. Also, this explanation should probably differ between packages that used to be in the archive but got removed and those that have never been in the archive at all. (I also have the niggling feeling that reports against old releases of emacs and gcc could benefit from even *more* special treatment, but I'm not quite sure what exactly. Perhaps at least a note to "try upgrading to a current release of Debian and emacs/gcc"?) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
