Comments/Problems:

The boot is fine at first (in a framebuffer), but then it looks as if X is being started - the screen flashes brightly (and jaggedly), then immediately goes dark. This repeats every few seconds - it looks as if there is some text (dark on light background, probably larger than the framebuffer text), during the bright flashes, but these are not visible for long enough to let me read any of it. At a guess, the text is the X log, as if X is trying to find a resolution, failing, and immediately restarting.

As shown above, the agp is nVidia (sorry, but they mostly come through like
that now) and it is connected to a 14" LCD screen via a DVI-VGA adaptor and
KVM.
