Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal I am requesting removal of the xerces-c2 package from unstable. The xerces-c2 package supplies version 2.8.0 of Xerces C. Version 3 was released almost six years ago, and version 2 is no longer supported.
At this point, there are only two packages left in unstable that have a build dependency on xerces-c2. One of them, clam, is already not in testing and hasn't been uploaded by its maintainer since 2011-05-17. The current upstream version works with xerces-c 3. The other one, anon-proxy, hasn't been uploaded by its maintainer since 2011-11-12, and as far as I can tell, it no longer exists in its current form upstream. The upstream website shows this program has having been rewritten in Java some time ago. Both packages have low popcon scores. I think it's time to remove xerces-c2 from unstable and to let it disappear from testing when the two packages that have recently been updated transition and anon-proxy gets removed from testing. I will upgrade the bugs against clam and anon-proxy to SERIOUS and retitle them to indicate FTBFS.
