What Gerrit version? Does it happen only some of the time, or 100% of the time when you try to push changes of a certain kind? Are you using a shallow clone? Part of what I'm puzzled about is that some people seem to have similar symptoms with older versions of git, too. For some reason there are more reports of it recently (even though 1.8.4.2 which introduced the most obvious potentially relevant change has been out since November). https://code.google.com/p/gerrit/issues/detail?id=1582 https://code.google.com/p/gerrit/issues/detail?id=1600 https://code.google.com/p/gerrit/issues/detail?id=2296 It sounds like the underlying problem is https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=422988 We may need to back out v1.8.4.2~10^2~1 (list-objects: mark more commits as edges in mark_edges_uninteresting, 2013-08-16) for now to work around it. If I provide a patched build or instructions to patch and build your own, would you be able to test such a workaround?
