freewrl crashes on startup with any wrl file (e.g. the example venus.wrl from the freewrl SF page). The behaviour and crash look exactly like in the mplayer bug report #672947 . So I assume it is in fact the same bug with newer versions of fontconfig (i.e. above 2.8) and could be resolved similarly.
