Thank for reporting this bug. I'm afraid that I do not use
freeplayer myself for a long time. If you (or someone else) can
provide a patch, I will apply it and upload. Else, I will mark
this bug with the HELP tag and/or orphan the package.
Quickly looking at the sources, vlc is invoked with these options:
vlc --extraintf=http --http-host=:8080 --http-charset=ISO-8859-1 --sout="#std"
