Package: zathura
Version: 0.2.6-1
Severity: wishlist

Hello,
I am testing zathura as a possible replacement for my current PDF viewer
of choice (xpdf, which is now in trouble [1][2]).

It seems to me that zathura is a really nice program: thanks a lot
for maintaining its Debian package and for contributing to its upstream
development!

I have a feature request: I think it would be really useful, if there
were an option to tell zathura to automatically resize the window
width or height whenever a document is loaded.
Proposed name and description (for the man page) follow:

  window-resize-open
Causes the program window to be automatically resized if a document
is loaded. Possible options are "none" (no resizing is performed),
"width" (the window width is changed in order to honor the document
page aspect ratio with respect to the current window height, which
stays unchanged), and "height" (the aspect ratio is honored by
changing the window height and keeping the width unchanged).

      · Value type: String

      · Default value: none

With this new feature, it would be possible to put

  set window-resize-open "width"

in ~/.config/zathura/zathurarc and obtain the following behavior:

  • when zathura is started, its window would have the height and
width set with the window-height and window-width options

  • as soon as a document is loaded (that is to say: immediately,
if a file to be opened was provided on the command line, or anyway
whenever the user issues the open command), the window width
is resized (while keeping the window height unaltered) so that
the aspect ratio of the viewing area is exactly equal to the
    document page aspect ratio

I hope this feature can be implemented.
Please do so and/or forward my bug report upstream.

Thanks for your time!
Bye.
