Package: wnpp Severity: normal I request assistance with maintaining the software-center package. Or killing it.
I don't have enough days (or weeks?) to get a new upstream version working. The package description is: The Software Center lets you browse and install thousands of free applications available for your System. You can view available software by category, or search quickly by name or description. You can also examine the software already installed, and remove items you no longer need. . To install or remove software using USC, you need administrator access on the computer. This package consists of horrible Ubuntu-specific that needs to be patched to work on Debian. It needs an update to the new upstream version, but as the code became increasingly more Ubuntu-specific and I don't have enough free hours to refactor this codebase or hack the Ubuntu stuff out in some way, I need some help. This needs people to disable Ubuntu SSO and similar stuff, as they are pointless to maintain in Debian, and won't offer us any real features. A better way forward is gnome-software, but I believe it needs some more time to implement/discuss the required changes with ftpmasters, but that's mak's work. -- Julian Andres Klode - Debian Developer, Ubuntu Member See http://wiki.debian.org/JulianAndresKlode and http://jak-linux.org/.
