Perhaps the sudden shutdown caused stk's config files to be corrupted? Try removing ~/.config/supertuxkart, ~/.cache/supertuxkart, and ~/.local/share/supertuxkart (e.g. rename them if you want to keep your addons, highscores, etc. intact and try to recover them manually), and restart supertuxkart.
