hm, yes, this is definitely a problem with fakeroot on its own.

fakeroot fails when save-file has whitespace in its filename:

0 dkg@alice:/tmp/cdtemp.T4kup4$ fakeroot -s "ab" ls
0 dkg@alice:/tmp/cdtemp.T4kup4$ ls
ab
0 dkg@alice:/tmp/cdtemp.T4kup4$ fakeroot -s "a b" ls
/usr/bin/fakeroot: line 89: [: a: binary operator expected
faked, daemon for fake root environment
Best used from the shell script `fakeroot'
options for fakeroot: --key, --cleanup, --foreground, --debug,
--save-file, --load, --unknown-is-real
fakeroot: error while starting the `faked' daemon.
1 dkg@alice:/tmp/cdtemp.T4kup4$

        --dkg
