Does /dev/log already exist and is a process listening on this socket? This might explain why systemd fails to start syslog.socket. # sudo lsof /dev/log Does the problem persist after a reboot? When did this problem occur? After a package upgrade or something else? -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
