Amusingly, just as in the previous report, "It works for me." I don't see this message no matter who I ping or what options I use. It's not directly related to the receipt of ICMP host unreachables, because I can confirm that I'm receiving those. However, looking through the source, it actually doesn't look like the working_recverr variable is ever initialized in the ipv4 ping. So it's not totally surprising that behave unpredictably. Per the comments, "IP_RECVERR for raw socket was broken until [kernel] 2.4.9." That's not something we need to be concerned with in Debian, so I'm going to remove the related checks. noah
